Stress corrosion cracking (SCC)

The set-up with the O-ring evaluates the resistance of a certain material type to stress corrosion cracking.

Other SCC-tests exist. For example, when testing according to ASTM G36, the sample – typically U-bend – is immersed in a boiling 45% MgCl2-solution. The time to cracking is an indication of the resistance to stress corrosion cracking.
