The Belgian Welding Institute (BWI) has built a solid reputation in studying the physical structure and components of materials. Our laboratory has all the equipment necessary to prepare and analyse metallographic samples. A vast array of materials testing equipment enables the BWI to offer traditional characterisation as well as specialised testing.
Expertise
The Belgian Welding Institute (BWI) has the equipment and expertise to perform a wide array of material characterisation tests. Generally, the welded or base material test specimen(s) will be tested until fracture occurs and the specific material properties can be obtained and verified.
It is not always cost-effective or possible to take samples from components that are still in use. In such cases, Belgian Welding Institute (BWI) can rely on non-destructive testing techniques (NDT) such as replica examination, magnetic and (dye) penetrant testing, and on site hardness measurements.
Belgian Welding Institute (BWI) has a well equiped lab to perform several standardised tests (ASTM, EN ISO or other).
As a standard test does not always represent the real in-service conditions, we will be happy to assist you in developing a test tailored to your application.
