Sessie Automatisatie / Nieuwe processen

Dinsdag 19 november 2019

10:00 Welding with Collaborative Robots: An Overview — dr. Abhay Sharma · KU Leuven (BE) — EN

The use of collaborative robots for different handling operations is getting quite familiar, the use of these cobots for welding is more recent, and this has already raised quite some discussion. In this presentation an overview of the state of the art on cobots will be given, as well as the available technologies and solutions that have been developed specific for cobot welding, with some examples in arc and resistance spot welding. What this will mean for the future, i.e. the role of collaborative robots in welding automation, and the remaining challenges for using collaborative welding robots will be discussed.

10:25 Guaranteed - Born from Innovation, Raised in Industry — ir. Joachim Antonissen · Guaranteed (BE) — EN

In an industrial environment large production equipment is often tailor-made, resulting in long lead times or complete installation replacements when obsolete components break down, leading to huge financial losses or high storage costs.  Welding repair by means of WAAM can offer a solution as the technology opens the possibility to repair components beyond conventional techniques, thereby prolonging the life of ageing industrial equipment.  In this presentation we will highlight how combining process software to advanced welding, metallurgical, in-use modelling capabilities as well as the implementation of in-situ sensing and on-line NDT will contribute to our ambition of zero-defect production.

10:50 Weldability of AM SS316L components — EurIng. Staf Huysmans, IWE, Fweldl · Laborelec (BE) — EN

In recent years, Additive Manufacturing (AM) has become a regular manufacturing/fabrication process for components with complex geometries and for advanced materials. As AM is more and more applied, it is expected that AM components would need to be welded to each other or to conventionally manufactured parts. Installation of AM components may be required in operating systems involving welding. To investigate the weldability of AM components, an analysis was made regarding the potential risks and followed by bead-on-plate trials. Results have demonstrated that AM components are weldable and satisfy common criteria in the as built/as-welded condition.

Peter Pittomvils, IWE · Valk Welding Group (BE)

12:10 Wire and Arc Additive Manufacturing of Metal Parts: main steps for adaptation of existing welding equipment — ing. Nataliia Chernovol · KU Leuven (BE) — EN

Wire and Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) is an affordable technology for production of medium and large metal components in a material and const-efficient way. As it is based on the welding technology, standard welding equipment and industrial robots, that are widely used in the companies, could be adopted for the WAAM purposes. WAAM using conventional Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) and Cold Metal Transfer (CMT) processes was integrated within the robotized platform. Main steps for the welding technology adaptation, such as choice of software, determination of process parameters and deposition path strategies are discussed.
